What is a GUID?
GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) or UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) is a 128-bit number used to identify information in computer systems. The probability of generating duplicate GUIDs is extremely low.

FAQ
Are GUIDs truly unique?
While not mathematically guaranteed, the probability of collision is so low (1 in 2^122) that GUIDs are considered unique for practical purposes.
GUID vs UUID - what's the difference?
They're essentially the same thing. GUID is Microsoft's term, UUID is the ISO standard term. Both refer to the same 128-bit identifier.
